Most of Zuz’s sites can be read with your favorite rss news reader. This is a how to add the site news to your IPhone, IPad, or Android device by using the app Pulse.

I took the guide from Pulse Hints and modified just a bit to help with adding a site made by zuzonline.

First of all, go to your app store or android market and download and install the app.

Then follow these steps:

Scroll to the bottom of your feeds on the home screen and tap the +Add Bar

OR tap the settings icon (spoke-wheel in the upper left-hand corner), then find the +Add Bar at the bottom of your list of feeds for each page.

Next, you will see our Featured sources section. But you want to add your site to you it. These sources look fantastic in Pulse. Tap on a featured source to add it to Pulse.

To add your specific site, like zuzonline.com or any of the sites made by zuz, switch over to the Search tab at the bottom of the pop-up (IPhone/Pad) or at the top on Android devices. Type in your news source in the search box and hit Search. Enter a website URL like “www.zuzonline.com”. Tap the right feed from the list to add it – the website address is a good indicator for the right link.

Let’s hope that you read this article before you drop your phone in water because timing will be your best friend when trying to fix it.

So you have dropped your phone in water, coffee, juice, beer or any kind of liquid and now your phone is not working. The instructions I will give you are compiled from tons of research online and personal experience. I have fixed a few phones using the methods below but I cannot guarantee you that it will work with your case since it will depend on many things such as how long your phone has been exposed to the liquid, as to what type of liquid it was and as well as how fast you can start the recovery procedure.

I’m going to talk about the DON’Ts first because you may actually damage your phone permanently or look like a fool if you do the following things:

DO NOT use a hair dryer, oven or a microwave… make sure to read the battery warning!

Contrary to common advice, it is not recommended that you use a hair dryer (not even on the “cold” mode) to dry out the phone. Using a hair dryer may force moisture further into the small components, deep inside the phone, as the air blows inward. And if it is too warm, it will likely melt them. If moisture is driven deeper inside, corrosion and oxidation may result when minerals from liquids are deposited on the circuitry. Using a hairdryer might be a temporary fix, but this will eventually cause component failure inside the phone.

BATTERY WARNING!!! When attempting to save a wet cell phone, make sure you do not heat the battery as it could leak or even explode. Lithium-ion batteries are especially sensitive. In addition, many cell phones have plastic parts that can melt. Above all, do not try to save a wet cell phone by placing it in a microwave. You will destroy the electronic components and possibly the microwave in the process.

DON’T LIE! You’ll look like a fool!

If you think you can go back to the warranty department and tell the employee that your phone just broke and you swear that not liquid got near your phone, you might just look like a fool! Many phones have small, irreversible indicators that are telltale signs that you’ve soaked your phone. In the future, you can always keep your phone in a water-tight ziploc baggie. But I guess that’s not really very practical.

Now that you know what not to do let’s get to fixing, just understand that your chances on fixing your phone might not be the best, but it seems to be one of the best methods I’ve found. The longer it takes, the least likely you will fix it, so this is what I recommend you to do right after your phone hit the water:

Don’t panic(yet)! The first step is to remove the phone from the water as soon as possible. The less time the phone spends submerged, the greater chance it has of being saved. The plastic covers that come with cell phones do provide some protection, but it takes a mere twenty seconds or less for water to get through these barriers and start causing damage to your phone.

REMOVE THE BATTERY! Once you pull the phone from the water, remove the battery immediately. Cutting power is a crucial step when attempting to save a wet cell phone. There are many circuits inside cell phones that can survive getting wet, but only if they are not attached to a power source. Note that Iphone users don’t have that option so their chances to recover the phone is smaller!

If your cell phone comes with a SIM card, remove it promptly. Do not heat the card, simply pat it dry with a soft towel, and put it aside until the rest of your phone is dry and back to working order. The good news is that SIM cards recover well from water damage. If for some reason, your phone doesn’t survive the accident but the SIM card does, there are plenty of places that sell unlocked cell phones. Simply place your SIM chip into the new phone and go.

This is the time to release your panic! AHHHHHHHHHH, make it about 10 seconds or less because you are running against the clock. Now forget about the panic and continue…

If your phone was under the water for just a couple of seconds do the following:

Dry your phone, battery, SIM and memory card! Dry the phone as much as possible using q-tips or paper towels or a similar material. This will prevent water from getting further into the phone. Make sure to read the DON’Ts, you don’t want to use a hair dryer, or even a fan(so the water doesn’t get spread by the wind)

Use a vacuum cleaner if possible. If you want to try and suck the liquid out of the inner parts of the phone, try using a vacuum cleaner. Remove all residual moisture by drawing it away with a vacuum cleaner held over the affected areas for up to 20 minutes, in each accessible area (take it in turns with a friend). Be careful not to hold the vacuum too close to the phone, as a vacuum can create static electricity, which is even worse for the phone. Before touching the phone, cards or battery, touch a piece of metal to release any kind of static energy you may have acquired.

A good way to dry your phone, battery and cards is to put them under rice. Rice being a natural desiccant will help absorb the excess moisture. Let it dry for at least 48 hours and DO NOT try to charge the device.

BE PATIENT! If you put the battery back too soon, you can do some permanent damage to your phone and all this reading so far was in vain! Leave your phone to dry for 3 days.

If your phone was under the water for a longer period of time or it was under something else besides water (like coffee) then do the following:

Dry your phone, battery, SIM and memory card! Dry the phone as much as possible using q-tips or paper towels or a similar material. This will prevent water from getting further into the phone. Make sure to read the DON’Ts, you don’t want to use a hair dryer, or even a fan(so the water doesn’t get spread by the wind)

Immerse your phone in DENATURED ALCOHOL(you can buy it at your local hardware store and if you can’t get one, make sure you use the 90%+ alcohol type)

Place the device in the container and fill with Alcohol completely submerging the device. The alcohol will displace any water left in your device. Jiggle the container around a bit to make sure the alcohol is able to drive out the water droplets in your device. You may need to weight your device to keep it under the alcohol. I would suggest a 5 minute period of soaking, you can vary the time based on your results and optionally repeat this step if you are not successful.

Let it dry for at least 48 hours and DO NOT try to charge the device.

Remove the device and put it somewhere to dry for an hour or two. The alcohol will evaporate very quickly but be sure it’s really dry. Q-tips are helpful as well to make sure you’ve got the item clean.

BE PATIENT! If you put the battery back too soon, you can do some permanent damage to your phone and all this reading so far was in vain!

Reassemble your device after 3 days and hopefully you are good to go.

Definitions

Pull up the definition of the word by typing define followed by the word you want the definition for. For example, typing:define bravura would display the definition of that word.

Local search

Visit Google Local enter the area you want to search and the keyword of the place you want to find. For example, typing:restaurant at the above link would display local restaurants.

Phone number lookup

Enter a full phone number with area code to display the name and address associated with that phone number.

Find weather and movies

Type “weather” or “movies” followed by a zip code or city and state to display current weather conditions or movie theaters in your area. For example, typing weather 84101 gives you the current weather conditions for Salt Lake City, UT and the next four days. Typing movies 84101 would give you a link for showtimes for movies in that area.

Track airline flight

Enter the airline and flight number to display the status of an airline flight and it’s arrival time. For example, type: delta 123 to display this flight information if available.

Track packages

Enter a UPS, FedEx or USPS tracking number to get a direct link to track your packages.

Pages linked to you

See what other web pages are linking to your website or blog by typing link: followed by your URL. For example, typinglink:http://www.computerhope.com displays all pages linking to Computer Hope.

Find PDF results only

Add filetype: to your search to display results that only match a certain file type. For example, if you wanted to display PDF results only type: “dell xps” filetype:pdf — this is a great way to find online manuals.

Calculator

Use the Google Search engine as a calculator by typing a math problem in the search. For example, typing: 100 + 200 would display results as 300.

Stocks

Quickly get to a stock quote price, chart, and related links by typing the stock symbol in Google. For example, typing: msftwill display the stock information for Microsoft.

Taking care of your laptop is an essential thing that every owner must do in order to avoid paying the big bucks to repair or even having to buy a new one and I know that people hear these tips a few times in life but many of them ignore these tips, its like people telling you “Don’t drink and drive!” and then they do it once and its all good, do it twice, nothing happens, and on the 1000th time doing it something really bad happens and the last thing they want to hear is the famous phrase “I TOLD YOU SO!”

I have been fixing computers for over a decade and there are 3 things laptop owners seem to oversee (a lot) and “I WILL TELL YOU SO” and you will have your choice to either do it, or play with your luck and hope that you don’t eventually find yourself paying big bucks for a new laptop or a new piece of hardware + a few hundred bucks for installation.

Follow these tips and your risk of having computer hardware problems get reduced significantly!

1) Ventilation: If you are reading this with your laptop on top of your bed, couch or anything that block the ventilation from the bottom of your laptop, then congratulations! You’re on the road to set your motherboard on fire (or at least melt the circuit).

Without going into too much details, your laptop needs airflow so the hardware parts cool down. This is the number 1 hardware problem that I get from clients and I usually know it as soon as they tell me the symptoms.

So what do you do? Well if you havent placed it on a flat table (not over the table cloth) or a laptop stand, do it and never place it over anything that blocks the ventilation from your computer.

2) Surge Protection: Clients call me all the time telling me that their desktop computer is not doing anything when they press the power button. The first thing I ask is whether they plugged it on a surge protector and most of the time the answer is no.

One of my clients bought an expensive HP desktop and had it plugged directly on the wall and the first thunder storm that came burned his power supply, luckly the warranty was good and he got a replacement, only to have it happen AGAIN! Well, after a second replacement he learned his lesson and bough a nice surge protector with a backup battery and never again experienced a problem

3) Spills: Now that’s a pet peeve I have. Not only you increase your risk to permanently damage your computer with the water from condensation running below your laptop or spilling a cup of liquid on top of it, but you most likely will void your warranty. “Oh but I’m really careful…” Trust me, 99% of the time this happened, the person was really careful, but it happened.

4) Hard Drive: Hard disk drives contain a magnetic needle that almost touches the disk, if you have your laptop on and you are not careful (if you shake it hard enough, if it drops, if you even have it on the floor of your car going on a bumpy road… yeah I did that once and you don’t want to know the end result), you might break your hard drive and lose all the pictures of your Ex’s and legally downloaded MP3 songs. I’ve seen it happen many times, don’t let that be you.

Most of the new laptop computers today have some kind of protection against hard disk drive (HDD) damages but why would you create a risk of breaking it? Air bags only offer additional protection but you still wear your sit belt don’t you?
